SubSonic: MVC Preview Video

I went and bought myself a Camtasia license for the new version 5.0 that's coming out and WOW did I geek out.

I went and bought myself a Camtasia license for the new version 5.0 that's coming out and WOW did I geek out. There's a whole ton of fun you can have, and a lot of time to be wasted with this thing :).

I started out doing a normal webcast with me droning on and on - but it seemed a bit silly to get into particulars since so much of this is as raw as can be, and I'm still working with prototype bits.

So instead I decided to do a "teaser" - to show off stuff I'm working on currently, which is:

  • Migrations
  • MVC Scaffold Generation
  • Core site design

It runs a little over 4 minutes, and is just over 6Mb. I decided that instead of talking really fast - I should just play some groovy tunes. I know I'm not going to get a job making films - but it was fun nonetheless :).

A Big Hi Five to anyone who can "name that tune"... (except for you Kemp).

Download it here.

Silverlight (thanks Jon!)

Jon Galloway - November 5, 2007 - Oops - comments strips out IFRAMEs - I can't understand why?!?! I emailed you the SL Streaming code.
Ozzie Perez - November 5, 2007 - Nice!! Man Rob, you never cease to amaze me! Where in the world do you find the time to work on so many things and get so much done? I can't wait to give this ASP.MVC a whirl... looks like a beauty! Take care.
Andrew Rimmer - November 5, 2007 - Awesome :) All those who thought you'd change after your Microsoft move.....
Bryan - November 5, 2007 - NIIIIICE!!!! I want to see some Presentation code tho :)
jdee - November 5, 2007 - the tune is buena by morphine
Stuart Allen - November 5, 2007 - top notch... I can't wait for migrations to be ready. Are you guys going to support creating a script from existing tables as a starting point?
Dan - November 5, 2007 - Confirming Buena/Morphine. That whole album is solid. *grabs longboard and heads on out*
kevin - November 5, 2007 - rob, you may want to have the video paused on page load - for 2 reasons. Well, I guess this depends if anyone has Silverlight installed on their machines...but you'll get the idea. 1) bandwidth consumption 2) it's going to be weird next week when we're reading a new post from you and all of a sudden we hear "morphine" start rocking out. the songs great, so I'm not complaining...but it'll be distracting for some. I'm looking forward to the seeing more on the topics of "core site design" and "scaffold generation" versus anything else just because I know Migrations will be amazing.

Rob Conery - November 5, 2007 - @kevin - oops! my bad on that one. Reset the link..
kevin - November 5, 2007 - Hmm...did we just get a finalized name for this MVC bad boy? ASP.MVC? I know stevenharman had been blogging about calling it MVC.Net Just curious because I do believe a name, any name, gives the conversation context. It'll also make finding blog posts, writing blog posts, etc much easier if we're all referencing the same name.
Haacked - November 5, 2007 - @Kevin No, that's not the finalized name. For the time being it's being called ASP.NET MVC. Of course, Microsoft Marketing reserves the right to put some lipstick on this baby in the future. Steve, Rob, and others are merely projecting ideas for naming it. @Rob - Great video! Love the page turning effect. I really really need to finish my one and only screencast I started last month. ;)
Rob Conery - November 5, 2007 - Yep - wanted to second the naming thing - just popped into my head as I was writing the titles up. Not sure what the final name will be, but I'm going to guess it will be along the lines of ASP.NET MVC. I haven't started yet (next week) so I'm guess that I'll know more then! @Stuart - yes, that's one of my goals.
Stuart Allen - November 5, 2007 - @Rob - cool deal, that would really be a sweet feature set to have. Guess the hire from MS allowed you to step up to some professional screencast software ;-) My copy of Camtasia is on order.
Andrew Nurse - November 5, 2007 - Uh oh...think I'm starting to get MVC Withdrawl and I haven't even used it yet...I cannot wait until this stuff is out in some form (CTP/Beta/etc.)...
Dave Savage - November 5, 2007 - I can has subsonic burger?
Mahdi Taghizadeh - November 7, 2007 - Thank you!
Dave Newman - November 7, 2007 - This is great stuff! I can't wait to get my hands on it, I've been working in rails most of the last 6 months and was almost ready to cease working in .NET completely. Good timing!
Darrell - November 13, 2007 - Dude. Love the music. Who is that?
Dave Newman - November 14, 2007 - Hey! Uncomment that migrate code!!

Rob Conery - November 15, 2007 - Thanks salman - nice stuff to read and I appreciate it. There are a few things I wish I could have fit in there but I only had 4 minutes!
Paraag kantharia - December 21, 2007 - Hi Rob, Great Stuff. Just impressed. My face is smiling just with a thought that what cannot be done with DLR and Dynamic Languages support. BTW... How far have you reached...? I could not find this this MVC CTP, may be in the next one....? Thanks
Jason - February 29, 2008 - Wow. I've really been gettting lured in by Rails' siren song these days, but I think the rose-colored glasses are starting to come off. "Just when I thought I was out... MS pulls me back in!"
Rusty - March 5, 2008 - wow. That's all I have to say. Well, that and THANK YOU! I'm ready. Can I have it now? How about now? ok, now?
