One Hundred Pushups Twitter Challenge

Saturday, August 09, 2008 -

I've been feeling like poop today and I thought I was getting sick - turns out I was just stressed out. This is both good and bad - good in that I don't have a virus, bad in that I'm THAT stressed out.

So I decided to do something about it.

Yes, I Live In Hawaii - So What
I still get stressed out. Yes I know you feel nothing for me, and yes I know I'm QQ'ing like a baby. The fact is that I don't get out and I don't exercise enough (it's summer, no waves, boo hoo) and it build up. Normally I try to get in the water in the mornings after I drop the kids off at school (this is my gym) but that hasn't happened in a while... and I'm feeling it.

It doesn't matter where/when/how you live - it can slip no matter what you do.

100 Pushups - Whatever
A friend of mine told me about this site and it's pretty funny. The deal is that they give you a program and if you follow it, you'll be doing 100 pushups in 6 weeks:

"If you're serious about increasing your strength, follow this six week training program and you'll soon be on your way to completing 100 consecutive push ups!

Think there's no way you could do this? I think you can! All you need is a good plan, plenty of discipline and about 30 minutes a week to achive this goal!

No doubt some of you can already do 50 consecutive push ups, but let's face it, you're in a big minority. Most of you reading this won't even be able to manage 20 pushups. Actually, I'm sure many of you can't even do 10.

However, it really doesn't matter which group you fall into. If you follow the progressive push ups training program, I'm positive you'll soon be able to do 100 push ups!"

It's a pretty popular site and no doubt a lot of you heard about it - but are you DOING something about it!

Twitter Challenge
So tonite I'm starting, and I'm going to Twitter my progress every night. If I don't - you better tell me about it! Are you up for it? Wanna lose that gut! Come on cupcake - Gunny Sergeant says MOVE OUT!

What is your MAJOR MALFUNCTION!

Nice. I started doing something similar with squats since the beginning of the year, adding one each day (I also took the idea from the intarweb) and later adding pushups and situps too. Unfortunately, I gave up after being sick for a while.

Now I think I will try with these one. It shouldn't be very hard to complete the training. Thanks and good luck!

Oh, sorry for the double-posting (I didn't send it twice :/).

I forgot to mention that I have also been so stressed lately that I started to suffer eye twitching in my left eye. I had some vacations and I went down to my upper lip, then almost disappeared. Now it's coming back to my eye. So annoying!

I hope this helps me out.

Pretty ironic - I decided this weekend to take up the same challenge and will be starting tonight. First one to 100 (video proof) wins a SubSonic t-shirt and case of WekeRoad beer??? :-)

Come on Rob.. you shouldn't be putting blogs like this up..

you're making me feel guilty that i'm not getting to the gym often enough :(

the whole office where i work go to the gym twice a week with a personal trainer.. so we don't get fat and have bad postures.. pretty cool perk..

btw.. if your trying to lose your gut.. doing push ups isn't enough.. go for a run for 10 kms..

running is good for stress.. and memory.. so i've heard..

btw.. you shouldn't work out while your stressed.. it's bad for your body..

I actually don't have a gut believe it or not - I'm fairly fit since I'm able to get out on the water some. I just feel weak that I can't do pushups :) like I used.

As for running - I'm OK with it but I'd rather swim or paddle; my back/legs don't like it much. But I agree - it's really good for you.

What I really like doing is Yoga. My wife has some great DVDs (me too - hers are better tho) and I try to do them but they take some time.

I think stress is worse for me then working out :p

It seems there are alot of people taking on the 100 Pushup Challenge. I actually just started last week, so I'm in the midst of week 2. The more people I see doing this, the more motivation.

Hey Rob..

While your stressed out don't pump the iron.. the run / swim would be better for your body..

when you're stressed your body releases a hormone.. can't remember exactly which one.. but if you go to the gym and pump iron you will damage your muscles rather than build them..

well that's what the muscle mag i read says..

considered meditation?

@Anatoliy - you hit it right on the head! Chris I know what you mean - over exertion in bursts :). I'm not that stressed out really, just needed some exercise.

I don't meditate really, but I do like Yoga a lot. And when I can I get out on the water so that's kind of like meditation...

@Anatoliy

i love going to the gym.. when i'm not so busy with work i normally go 4-5 times a week.. it's coming up to summer in Sydney so need to shape up..

the one thing i find funny about the muscle mags is that from month to month.. they contradict themselves..

i'm sure in a few months time they will be saying work out while you're stressed it helps muscle growth.. lol..

P.S. i have to admit after reading the blog about it.. i went home and gave it a go.. i got 40 straight off the bat..

Good to see other people doing the challenge.

Here's my progress. I've been stuck on week 5 due to time constraints, an almost non existent sleep schedule, and just plain being tired from biking and running.
