This post is a bit of a downer – at least for me – but it comes on the heals of this Tweet by Scott:
One of those positions is mine. I’ve made the tough decision to leave Microsoft and go back to working for myself. My last day is August 28th.
Truthfully there is no drama here – short of the fact that I’m more than a bit sad that I won’t get to work with/for my friend/hero. It’s an unfortunate case of bad timing – I had made the decision literally at the same time Scott got the bump. But I spose in the end it will save him from the headache of having to deal with me :). This is a dream job – it’s local *or* remote, working with some very talented people. If you’re interested click the link above!
It's been an honor to work at Microsoft. The folks there are brilliant and humbling, and the way they treat their employees is first class all the way. I wish all of them the best of luck and good wishes.
One thing I’d like to make very clear: I’m not going to stop what I’m doing. If anything – I’m going to do a lot more of it with, shall we say, a little more of “me” behind it :). SubSonic is still mine and I’m going to keep on like I always have – I’m just switching employers from Microsoft to … well me.
I’m sure some of you might be curious as to why I’ve made this decision, and let’s just say it comes down to knowing when to say when – and it’s time.
When.
I am sure you will be sorely missed at Microsoft, and that you will be successful in your endeavors.
Good luck pal!
Anon: Hey, looks like you've got two balls there.
Rob: Know what they're made of?
Anon: Dunno, looks like some kind of metal.
Rob: These balls are mine, and they are made of brass.
Wow, you're walking away from most of our dream jobs. But you-da-man so you must know what you're doing (and leaving). Good luck!
Best of luck to you!
Good working with you a few times over the years - best of luck.
You did awesome at MS, the community will miss you as a voice of reason. Good luck with you new adventures!
Thanks for the screencast series and all of the hard work you put in.
Was great meeting you at MIX09 and I hope to see you again, best of luck Rob!
Thanks for your work at Microsoft and your valuable contributions. Your storefront series was one of a kind. Best of luck in your new venture!
Thanks,
Azam

Good luck, Rob!
Be gentle with your new boss... please...
I liked how you gave me the feeling MS is moving towards a different cause. I hope this course is one they won't abandon any time soon.
As many others, I followed your MVC screencasts and learned a lot from them.
And now I'm curious what will come up on this blog. Maybe in your own time you still will use the MVC framework and tell us all about it?
Congratulations on making the decision, choosing what you want to do is always the best choice.

Very sad. Why, are they not paying you enough. I really love your work on storefront and especially the "subsonic - The Batman Utility Belt."
All the Best for you and your family.
Narendra
Best of luck and I'll continue to watch you like a crazy-eyed stalker.
p.s. What happened to Intense Debate comment plugin?
cheers
It comes as a suprise to me but good luck in your new venture! It is always a pleasure to read your blog.
